| What is the Pearland Citizens Police Academy? |
The original concept of the Citizens Police Academy (CPA) came from Great Britain, where the UK Constabulary designed a program to give citizens an overview of British law enforcement operations. Known as “police night school” when it began in 1977, the program was an immediate success.
The idea spread to the United States via the Orlando (Florida) Police Department soon thereafter. The CPA concept can now be found in large and small law enforcement agencies across the USA and Canada.
The Pearland CPA is a free community oriented policing program designed for citizens of Pearland. The program is conducted twice a year at the Pearland Police Department and has three goals in mind:
|
|
- To allow citizens of Pearland to meet the men and women who serve them.
- To educate citizens in the “how’s” and “why’s” of Law Enforcement.
- To provide Pearland Police Officers the opportunity to meet and hear from the citizens they serve.
CPA Students are encouraged to be involved in the instruction by using the "two way lectern" approach during the course. The City of Pearland and the Pearland Police Department encourage input from citizens.

|
| Who Can Attend the CPA? |
The CPA is open to all residents that live or work in the Pearland area. Applicants are subject to a small background check to ensure the integrity of the program.
A minimum age requirement of 18 years is imposed with the exception of 17 if attending with a family member.

The CPA class is held twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. CPA Class will start on February 16th, 2006 and will meet on Thursday nights from 7PM till 10 PM till May 11th, 2006.
